Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot to fly across the Atlanthic Ocean. She was born the 24th of July of 1897 and she died the 2 of July of 1937 (39 years).
Her father was Samuel Starton and her mother Amy Earhat. The teacher of Amelia of aviation was Nita Snook. She worked in the University Purdue.
On June 1st 1937 Amelia Earhart took off from Oakland, California on an eastbound flight around the world. It was her second attemp to become the first pilot ever to circumnavegate the globe.
She flew a twin-engine lockheed called Electra and was accompained on the flight by navigator Fred Noonan. They flew to Miami, then down to south america, across the Atlantic to Africa, the east to India and Southeast Asia.
The couple reached Lae. New Guinea, on June 29th when they reached Lae they already had flown 22000 miles.
They had 7.000 more miles to go before reaching Oakland. Eathart and Noonan departed Lae for tiny Howland islands their next refueling stop.
On July 2sd, 1937, the plane that Amelia was flying with her navigator disappered somewhere near Howland Islands in the Pacific Ocean, 323km form the Iwkumana Islands, bu no one saw or heard of the plain again.
When the Itasca (the U.S Coast Guard vessel) staionated off Howland Islands with whom, Amelia and Noonan had been in periodic radio contact realized that they had lost contact, they began an investigation search. They used 66 aircrafts and hire ships, but they didn´t discover anything, the official search ended on July 12th, 1937.
Althought Amelia has never been officiaññy found, in the years since her disppearance, several investigations have clainde to have discovered evidences of Earhart and her plane.
